El Brasil de Pelé ganó por 3-1 sí, pero siempre se recordará este partido por una jugada maravillosa que, curiosamente, el delantero falló.
Pelé recibe un gran pase, en teoría con ventaja del portero Mazurkiewicz. Un sexto sentido obliga al brasileño a continuar por la izquierda del guardameta y cambiar de ritmo hacia la derecha, donde recogerá la pelota que el uruguayo no acertó a atajar, quizá sorprendido por el movimiento de Pelé, quizá intimidado ante el mito. Pelé remató con muy poco ángulo. La pelota no entró por centímetros, pegada al poste izquierdo. No entró, sin embargo la jugada ya es leyenda.
