JUSTIN FASHANU, DEL ARMARIO AL ATAÚD / JUSTIN FASHANU, BLACK AND GAY

Justinus Soni Fashanu (1961-1998) no lo tuvo fácil para triunfar en Inglaterra. Negro y homosexual, rompió barreras pero se impuso otros muros infranqueables. Abandonado en el orfanato junto a su hermano John, optó por el fútbol para abrirse un camino. Un gol espectacular al Liverpool, en 1980, le abrió las puertas del Nottingham Forest en la premier league, con un contrato por un millón de libras. Allí se perdió entre una acumulación de lesiones, bajo rendimiento y demasiadas discusiones con su entrenador. En 1990 confesó su homosexualidad en una revista. Una indiscreción que no le congració el apoyo gay y sí el desprecio de sus compañeros, aficionados y su propio hermano. Sin rumbo fijo y en caída libre, pululó por equipos de medio mundo. En 1994 se buscó problemas al relacionarse con Stephen Milligan, diputado asfixiado durante una práctica sexual. En 1998 fue acusado injustamente de violación en Estados Unidos. Huyó a Londres donde, deprimido o quizá asesinado, apareció ahorcado bajo el puente de Shoreditch. Dejó una nota escrita: "Encontraré en el cielo la paz que no tuve en la Tierra".

He was abandoned at the orphanage with his brother John. There Justin chose football and improved each year. A spectacular goal against Liverpool in 1980, opened the gates of Nottingham Forest in the Premier League with a contract for a million pounds. Justin lost his future there between an accumulation of injuries, poor performance and too many discussions with his coach. In 1990 he confessed his homosexuality in a magazine. An indiscretion that did not support the gay community and provoked the scorn of their peers, fans and his brother. Without stability in free fall, Justin played in teams around the world. In 1994 his name was related to Stephen Milligan, a deputy suffocated during a sexual practice. In 1998 he was wrongly accused of rape in the United States. He escaped to London where, depressed, or perhaps killed, was found hanged under the bridge at Shoreditch. He wrote his last words: "I will find peace in heaven that I had on Earth."

Burt Munro era un campechano abuelete neozelandés que meaba en su limonero y limpiaba los pies con una lijadora. En lugar de pasar el día en el hogar del pensionista lo hacía perfeccionando su obra, una motocicleta Indian Twin Scout de 1920.

En 1967, a los 68 años decidió probarla y probarse, cruzando el océano para exprimirla en Bonneville Salt Flats (utah) y batir el récord de velocidad mundial, 300 kilómetros por hora. Aquí se presenta la epopeya del viaje, una "road movie" a medio camino entre "La ciudad no es para mí" y "Estoy hecho un chaval".

El primer día del año nuevo fue el último de la vidad del jugador de fútbol americano Darrent Williams. Como una película de la Mafia, el joven atleta del equipo Denver Broncos fue tiroteado por unos desconocidos cuando viajaba en su limusina. Unos minutos antes había asistido a una fiesta organizada por compañeros de su equipo y el Denver Nuggets, el vecino club de baloncesto de la NBA. Todo indica que el jugador se vió involucrado a su pesar en una pelea entre bandas callejeras que surgió en el local. Gangs of Denver.

El "Cornerback" en fútbol americano es un jugador defensivo, encargado de parar a cualquier precio a los corredores rivales o recuperar los malos pases del "Quaterback", el cerebro del enemigo. Darrent Willams (1982-2007) se ganaba la vida con este trabajo, un buen sueldo que le permitía un estatus privilegiado y mantener una horterísima limusina blanca "Hummer" de 23 asientos, por las calles de la ciudad estadounidense de Denver.

El joven jugador de los Broncos fue acribillado dentro de su vehículo. La policía cree que por tres individuos que viajaban en un Chevrolet Tahoe, de color blanco. El Chevrolet es propiedad de Brian Hicks, un tipejo acusado de delitos varios y graves, encarcelado bajo fianza de un millón de dólares y miembro de una banda callejera llamada "los Crips".

Este dato es importante. Williams asistió a una fiesta de Fin de Año en el local The Shelter, junto a jugadores NBA como Kenyon Martin y otros amigos, algunos integrantes de la banda "The Bloods". Bloods y Crips no tienen buenas relaciones y el conflicto estalló al primer descuido. La policía de Denver no descarta que varios Crips identificasen por error a Williams como miembro de la banda rival y decidiesen acribillarle fuera del local. Darrent disfrutó apenas de dos horas del año 2006, quizá por estar en el lugar equivocado en el momento equivodado.

The Chevrolet is owned by Brian Hicks, accused of several crimes, jailed on bail of one million dollars and a member of a street gang called "the Crips". This is important. Williams attended a New Year's Eve party at the local The Shelter, along with NBA players Kenyon Martin and other friends, some members of the gang "The Bloods".

Bloods and Crips do not have good relations and the conflict soon erupted. Denver police believe that young Crips thought that Williams was a member of the rival gang and they decided to kill him out of the party. Darrent enjoyed just two hours of the year 2007, perhaps from being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

El equipo de fútbol inglés Manchester United realiza una escala tras despegar desde Belgrado, ya clasificado para las semifinales de la Copa de Europa. Después de tres intentos, el avión Airspeed AS-57 se estrella contra una casa cercana al aeropuerto.

Murieron 23 de los 43 pasajeros, entre ellos ocho periodistas y otros tantos jugadores del equipo: Colman, Taylor, Edwards, Byrne, Whelan, Pegg, Bent y Jones. Un joven y prometedor conjunto, creado tres años atrás por el manager Matt Busby, gravemente herido en el accidente. La alternativa al dominante Real Madrid europeo se truncó aquella gélidad noche infernal.

El perfil: El Manchester se recuperó y ganó la Copa de Europa en 1968, con el superviviente del accidente Bobby Charlton en sus filas.
