Giorgi Tenazde es un judoka de
origen georgiano que participó con la Unión Soviética en la Olimpiada de Seúl 88,
última en la que intervino el estado creado por Lenin antes de su disolución.
Tenazde era un competidor duro y
correoso, con tres medallas de bronce en sendos campeonatos de Europa, del
mundo y olímpicos; su manera de competir era fiel exponente del judo soviético,
impregnado de influencias de los estilos
autóctonos de lucha de las diversas nacionalidades que componían el mosaico del
estado soviético.
En este combate eliminatorio de
los Juegos Olímpicos de Seúl (1988), en la categoría del peso ligero (-71 kg), lo vemos batiendo con
su peculiar ko-soto-gari (gake) a Toshihiko Koga, en aquel momento, una
incipiente figura del judo japonés.
Al año siguiente, Koga conseguiría
su primer campeonato del mundo de un total de tres (1989, 1991, 1995) y el oro
olímpico en Barcelona 92; hitos más relevantes de un extraordinario palmarés
que sitúa a Koga como un campeón entre
los mejores de todos los tiempos.
