Que en este mundo existe gente verdaderamente peculiar no cabe duda. Lean el ejemplo del estadounidense Steve Fossett (1944-2007). Millonario, comerciante y próspero inversor en la Bolsa, Fossett empleó su tiempo libre y mucho dinero ganado en las hazañas más arriesgadas: nadar de un extremo a otro el Canal de La Mancha (1985), atravesar el Océano Atlántico en velero (2001), recorrer el mundo en globo (2002) barco (2004) y avión (2005)... En total, 116 récords que esperaba incrementar a sus 63 años. El 3 de septiembre de 2007 salió a pilotar su avioneta por el desierto de Nevada, preparando el terreno para otro reto. Desapareció sin dejar rastro hasta un año después, cuando sus restos y parte de los de la avioneta que manejaba se encontraron en el parque de Yosemite, en California. La falta de nieve permitió que unos senderistas descubriesen el aparato por pura casualidad, esparcidos por una zona montañosa. Resulta curioso que un aventurero que jugó tanto con el riesgo durante su vida, falleciese durante un vuelo tan ordinario.
