La decisión de Anne (My sister´s keeper, 2009) trata el complejo tema de sufrir una enfermedad terminal en familia. Una tragedia que pone a prueba los sentimientos de todos sus miembros. Aceptar y prepararse para la muerte, una vez se ha luchado lo imposible por la vida, es el mensaje de esta película. No confundir con la eutanasia.
Cometas en el cielo (The kite runner, 2007) está basada en una exitosa novela que nos recuerda la convulsa historia reciente de Afganistán. De la corrupta república y los enfrentamientos entre las etnias pastún y tayiko, a la invasión soviética en los 80, la guerra civil y el régimen de terror de los talibanes. El protagonista, exiliado en Estados Unidos, deberá superar sus miedos de adolescente para regresar al infierno y cumplir con un deber moral.
Agua (Water, 2005) denuncia la situación marginal de la mujer en la India, ese lugar tan idílico para los occidentales, siempre y cuando no tengan que vivir como sus habitantes, claro. La acción se centra a finales de los años 30, con el país camino de la independencia. La protagonista es una niña de ocho años a quien casan con un señor moribundo. Siguiendo la tradición, tras la muerte de su esposo sólo tiene tres alternativas: casarse con el hermano más joven del fallecido, arder en la pira con él o pasar el resto de su vida encerrada en un hogar para viudas. Así de crudo, así de real.
Tres películas que tocan temas muy sensibles, sin abusar del patetismo ni de la cursilería. Cine para tener los pies en suelo y comprender un mundo donde conviven los más bellos sentimientos con los más bajos instintos.

The corrupt republic and clashes between ethnic Pashtun and Tajik, the Soviet invasion in the 80's, civil war and the terrifying Taliban´s regime. The protagonist must overcome his fears to return to hell and meet a moral duty.
Water (2005) denounces of the marginal status of women in India. The action happens in the 30's, in a country road to independence. The protagonist is a eight years child who is married to a man dying. Following tradition, after the death of her husband, she only has three alternatives: to marry her husband´s younger brother, burn on the pyre with her dead husband or lead a life of self-denial, locked rest of his life. So crude and real.
